The following update was provided to NEWCAP by Frank Tedesco, Assistant Site Manager:
The Overland Conveyor and New Windsor quarry project is on schedule to be complete by yearend 2017. The project has a great safety culture, led by the plant’s Andy Rigler, with good project results from the federal inspection agencies. There is now more than 280,000 man-hours worked without a major safety incident.
The main concrete construction work is well underway and there is less than 3,000 feet of tunnel to construct (~65% complete). The at grade slab is near complete, 90%, and conveyor installation with jumbo covers is underway. Two roads are currently being detoured, Old New Windsor Rd and Winter’s Church Rd. Both roads are expected to be opened by the end of August, in time for the new school year. The next road on our schedule to be closed/detoured is Hawk’s Hill Rd. This detour will last approximately 2 months and begin in September 2016. Afterwards Greenwood Church Rd, est. start mid-November, will be detoured and this marks the last road closure/detour for the project. Backfilling and grading over the tunnel portions will continue into Spring 2017 along with landscaping and general clean-up. The quarry phase of the project is well underway with the initial pit being close to completion. The equipment and steel for the crushing facility has begun to arrive and assembly activities will begin shortly.
The system is on schedule for commissioning and start-up beginning Q3 2017 and continue through the yearend.
